Job Fair costs

Went to a job fair today. At the entrance I spotted a cashbox and receptionists checking people in.
When i reached the head of the line, I asked if there was a fee for this event , the lady at the table simply stated, yes there is. I turned around, after a snide comment, and left the area.
Here I am like,,,23 million of my brothers and sisters; looking for a higher step up the ladder...to be rebuffed by the HR denizens of the new world order. The Carrot and the Stick come to mind. They offer the Carrot high on the stick, pay a fee and you can take a lick, be quick and pray that a position appears ahead of you before you are through....Disgusting  situation in my opinion.....back to Satellite Football.
